Als ein Mann überfahren wird und stirbt, wird zunächst von einem Unfall ausgegangen. Doch ein Zeuge unterstellt dem Fahrer Vorsatz und beschuldigt ihn des Mordes: Henry, Dannys Großvater, will den Tatvorgang genau beobachtet haben und beteiligt sich bei den Ermittlungen so rege als wäre er noch Kommissar im Dienst. Ganz glücklich ist Danny nicht mit der Unterstützung. Bald aber muss er einsehen, dass auch er noch einiges lernen kann.

Bandenkriminalität ist an der Carnegie Hill School nur ein Problem von vielen. Als es zu einem Zwischenfall kommt, bei dem einem Kind ins Bein geschossen wird, müssen sich Danny und Baez mit Schülern auseinandersetzen, die gelernt haben, der Polizei zu misstrauen. Währenddessen kommt es zu einem Kräftemessen zwischen der NYDP und der Politik: Frank soll Gouverneur Mendez einen Gefallen tun, doch als dieser sich quer stellt, droht der Politiker mit Rufmord.
